Information & Registration
We warmly invite you to participate in the 2nd Annual International Recitation of the Words of the Buddha, taking place at the Thousand Golden Buddha Temple in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha Shakyamuni.
This extraordinary gathering brings together monastic and lay practitioners from different Buddhist traditions to recite the precious words of the Buddha simultaneously in Pali, Sanskrit, Chinese, Tibetan, Vietnamese, English, and other languages.
The Recitation takes place in conjunction with Part One of the 46th Annual Fall Seminar with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche and other teachers. Both events begin on the auspicious day of Lhabab Düchen, November 1st, and continue through November 7th. Part Two of the Annual Fall Seminar, featuring teachings by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, takes place from November 8th–10th.
How to Participate in the Recitation
1. In-Person Participation in Lumbini
We warmly welcome everyone who wishes to join the Recitation in person at the Thousand Golden Buddha Temple. During these days, participants can also attend the teachings offered as part of the 46th Annual Fall Seminar.
Those who wish to become dedicated reciters can make a commitment to recite an assigned packet of texts. By selecting this option in the registration form, you will receive a personal text packet ID identifying the texts you are responsible for reciting.
You are equally welcome to participate in the Recitation without making a specific recitation commitment.
Please register using the form below, whether or not you wish to become a dedicated reciter. Your early registration will help us prepare for your arrival.
2. Online Participation — Become a Dedicated Reciter
This year, we are delighted to offer a special opportunity for those participating online in English to become dedicated reciters of the Words of the Buddha, using the English translations by 84000.
As a dedicated reciter, you will be assigned a specific packet of texts to download and recite. This packet will be your personal recitation commitment and your contribution to our collective effort to recite the Buddha's precious teachings in their entirety.
To become a dedicated online reciter, please register using the form below. You will receive a personal text packet ID identifying the texts assigned to you.
3. Online Participation — Join the Recitation Freely
If you are unable to commit to being a dedicated reciter but would still like to participate during some of the recitation sessions, you are most welcome to join!
Simply visit the 84000 Reading Room and select the sutras you would like to recite.
There is no need to worry if several people choose the same sutra, or if some sutras are not selected. The dedicated reciters, both in Lumbini and online, will ensure that the entire collection is recited in its entirety.
No registration is required for this form of participation.
Whether you join us in Lumbini or participate from wherever you are in the world, we rejoice in coming together to recite the words of our Teacher and dedicate the merit to the happiness of all beings, world peace, and the continued flourishing of the Buddhadharma.
