Four days of meritorious celebration and practice marked the first phase of the inauguration of Pal Thubten Shedrub Ling Monastery, Lumbini

Early in the morning of Saga Dawa Duchen, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Tulku Urgyen Yangsi Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche, 200 monks from Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling monastery and almost 100 lay students from Nepal and all over the world gathered at Mayadevi Temple, which marks the site where the Buddha Shakyamuni was born. This grand procession—carrying a number of 18-inch golden Buddha statues and all of the volumes of the Kangyur—circumambulated the Mayadevi Temple and then walked more than two kilometers to the new monastery.

The consecration and cleansing ritual of the 1000 Buddhas was performed, along with other practices. Prime Minister of Nepal, Prachanda auspiciously joined the puja just before all of the statues—the majestic 16-foot golden Buddhas of the three times surrounded by 1,022 18-inch golden Buddha statues—were unveiled. The monks then began the recitation of the Kangyur—the collected words of the Buddha—which would take two and a half days to complete.

On the day after Saga Dawa Duchen, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche gave the first teaching seated in front of the newly consecrated statues.

On Sunday, sixty nuns from Nagi Gompa, who had just recently completed their 17-day Nyungne Retreat, performed various practices including two Tara pujas.

These four precious days of meritorious celebration and practice marked the first phase of the inauguration of Pal Thubten Shedrub Ling Monastery. The grand inauguration of the temple will take place on Lhabab Duchen, November 22, 2024. You are all invited to join this precious event—in person or online!
