A Practice request to students of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

On this auspicious day of Lhabab Duchen, which commemorates when Shakyamuni Buddha returned from teaching his mother in the heavenly realms, we have something very special to share with the global students of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche. As this is Rinpoche’s astrological obstacle year, a group of students on behalf of Rangjung Yeshe Institute and the international Gomdes recently requested H.H. Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche to pray for the long and healthy life of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, and to compose a prayer that can be recited to ensure Rinpoche’s longevity. Today we have received this prayer.

Starting today, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche encourages his students to maintain a daily practice of chanting the Buddha Shakyamuni Sadhana (“A Treasury of Blessings”), reciting the dharani of Shakyamuni Buddha within the sadhana (teyatha om muné muné maha munayé soha), and meditating after the recitation of mantra for at least five or ten minutes. After meditation, we can read Rinpoche’s long-life prayer and dedicate the merit.

We are encouraged to alternate the readings of Rinpoche’s long-life prayers—one day we can read the long-life prayer from H.H. Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche and the next day we read the long-life prayer composed by the late H.H. Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche, including the small text at the end of the composition. H.H. Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche composed this prayer when Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche was only 23 years old.

We pray, always, for the long life of our precious master and rejoice in his ever-expanding activity of sharing the light of Shakyamuni Buddha’s teaching.
