Chöd practice by the third Karmapa

On this special Dakini Day of the auspicious Saga Dawa month, the monks of Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling monastery practiced the extraordinary full-day Chöd practice by the third Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje, called “Tsokle Rinchen Trengwa.”

Due to the lockdown, only the monks who already have been isolating themselves together for nearly three months were able to attend. The merit of the monks’ practice was dedicated to all beings, especially to those who are suffering due to the coronavirus.

This practice reveals the profound view of emptiness in combination with boundless great compassion. A Chöd empowerment text by Karma Chagme Rinpoche states: “This profound Chöd practice is more profound and potent than other practices for the removal of sicknesses, evil influences, and obstacles in this life. It is swifter than other practices for bringing about the attainment of future awakening…This is the way for simple meditators to accumulate merit; one hundred other practices of merit accumulation cannot rival it…The view, primordial purity beyond extremes, is unrivaled by one hundred other dharma practices.”

Because of the extensive, heart-felt supplications that are part of the practice, Karma Chakme Rinpoche, who edited the Tsokle Rinchen Trengwa, also stated, “This practice is essentially a Guru Yoga practice.” Because of its profound methods, the practice is deeply transformative. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche once said, “At the end of this practice, you just can’t help but feel blessed and transformed.”
