In Memory of Lodi Gyari Rinpoche

We are deeply saddened by the recent passing of Lodi Gyari Rinpoche, the former special envoy for His Holiness the Dalai Lama based in the United States, Executive Chairman of the International Campaign for Tibet, co-founder of the Tibetan Youth Congress, and former foreign minister for the Central Tibetan Administration.

A skilled diplomat, known for his kindness, Gyari Rinpoche was exemplary in his selfless service to sentient beings, in particular as an extraordinary champion of universal human rights and a great supporter of the Tibetan people.

As the maternal grandfather of Tulku Urgyen Yangsi Rinpoche as well as the father-in-law of Phakchok Rinpoche, Gyari Rinpoche was a cherished part of our extended family at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling.

Gyari Rinpoche was a tulku who appeared outwardly as a gentleman; inwardly he was a truly great practitioner, and his passing was accompanied by auspicious signs, such as rainbows.  On October 31st, the monks of Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling performed a special memorial puja, offering our prayers and our deepest respect for Gyari Rinpoche and his exemplary life.
