Announcing the Dharma Gyan International Youth Association

When we are young, we are energetic, our minds are fresh and sharp, and we are motivated to shape the world for the good. It is often the case, though, that we spend these invaluable years in anticipation of a future where we believe our «real lives» will finally begin. Also, just like everyone else, young people yearn for purpose, but in a materialistic world dominated by the pressures and problems associated with social media, it can be hard to find real happiness, meaningful pursuits, and peace of mind.

Having reflected on this over the past year, I feel that the time has come to offer our youth something of enduring value—something that can empower them to unlock their own untapped potential. Therefore, today I am delighted to announce the establishment of the Dharma Gyan International Youth Association (Dharma Gyan IYA): an inclusive community where young people from diverse backgrounds can come together to explore meaningful topics such as the foundational teaching of the Buddha, his teachings on relative and ultimate reality, the journey to awakening, the characteristics of reality, and the way to explore this through practice.

I also envision Dharma Gyan IYA as a space for sharing thoughts on what it means to lead a healthy and happy life, here and now, on a day-to-day basis. Based on an ethical approach to life, young people can explore the practices of meditation and insight, physical yoga, clean and healthy lifestyles, environmental care, and social work.

Dharma Gyan IYA will encourage the understanding that our personal happiness begins with accepting responsibility for the welfare of our friends and family, local community, and the world at large.

Initially, the Dharma Gyan International Youth Association will comprise current students from the Rangjung Yeshe Institute. It is my deep wish that this community may gradually spread and flourish across the globe.
