Annual Bohdgaya Pilgrimage and Teachings

As we all know, the world these days is beset by many difficulties such as war, famine, and disease, and for this reason it is extremely important for all of us to gather the accumulations and purify obscurations.

For this reason, this past week Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche traveled to Bodhgaya to teach in the Carleton College study abroad program, and to make pilgrimage and prayers in Bodhgaya and Sarnath. Rinpoche was accompanied in this virtuous endeavor by a group of disciples from across the world.

On the auspicious full moon eclipse day, under the bodhi tree, Rinpoche gave a teaching and bestowed refuge and bodhisattva vows.

After the ceremonies at the bodhi tree, Rinpoche, along with the student group, met with Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi, Secretary of the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee and had a meaningful conversation.

On the following day, Rinpoche and his students traveled to Sarnath and prayed at the place where the Buddha taught and in front of the Buddha’s relics, before returning Kathmandu.

Please rejoice in these special events, and join Rinpoche in the practice of gathering merit and purifying obscurations, and dedicating this to peace and happiness in our world and the awakening of all beings.
